Get Involved¶
Everyone who helps with Roots & Rivers is credited by name on the Contributors page (or anonymously, if they prefer).
For students¶
- Record pronunciations. Version 1.0 uses written respellings only, because computer-made audio can get a word wrong. If you speak Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Nepali, Sinhala, Pashto, Dari, Dzongkha or Dhivehi, you can record the key words from a chapter on your phone. Suggest a recording and we'll send you the word list.
- Translate a chapter summary into a language your family speaks, so grandparents can read along.
- Share a story from an Ask Your Elders interview with the Story Archive, with permission.
- Start a club session with the Club Kit at your own school, then tell us how it went.
For families and community members¶
- Be interviewed. If a student asks you the Ask Your Elders questions, your answers are what the book's interview guides are built around.
- Tell us if something is wrong or unfair about your community, faith or language. Use the sensitivity review form.
For teachers¶
- Try one lesson from the Teacher Guide and report your classroom use. Those reports decide what changes in the next version.
- Run the pilot study with your class (it is consent-first and confidential); the kit is in the repository under
Materials/pilot-study/.
For scholars¶
- Review one chapter. It takes about 30 minutes. Volunteer as a reviewer; with your permission, you'll be credited on the Accuracy page.
For developers¶
The book is open source. Fix a typo, improve a MicroSim, or suggest a new one on GitHub. See CONTRIBUTING.md in the repository.
